Accommodations in Sanxenxo

Sanxenxo is one of the prettiest municipalities of Pontevedra, and is divided into six parishes containing many beaches where the EU’s Blue Flag waves. Every year the majority of beaches here receive this badge of quality, and therefore “Ayuntamiento de Sanxenxo” makes an effort to maintain its beaches to a state of perfection. In fact, over the years it is this community that has received the highest number of Blue Flags in Spain.
To mention all the beaches of the area would be too complicated. Simply put, they come to suit every taste: some with fine sand, some close to patches of thick vegetation, and others in more developed areas – everything depends on the parish in which you are staying.
The best-known might be the Playa de la Lanzada, which is shared by Sanxenxo and O’grove. A beach of rough sand, surrounded by incredible fauna, as it is next to the intermareal.
Playa de Major enjoys moderate surges and fine white sand in the most open part of Ria de Pontevedra.
One of most emblematic beaches of Sanxenxo is Silgar, located in the center of the municipality. Due to its mountain formations is one of warmest and sunniest of Galicia.
Like all of Galicia, there are pretty places to visit, like the protected intertidal area of Umia-O’Grove, close to the estuary of “la Ria de Arousa”. There is a multitude of walking routes to enjoy, like “La Ruta dos Carballos” (where you can hike), the impressive-looking points of the “Ria de Pontevedra”, the island of “A Toxa”, and many other options near the towns of Sanxenxo.
As in all of the Galician community, the local gastronomy is another main tourist attraction. And if the weather does not permit a day at the beach, there are many culinary alternatives.
The nightlife of Sanxenxo begins with traditional “tascas” of Portonovo in the “Street of Wines”; from there you can enjoy the many discotheques and pubs in the towns, and the terraces of Silgar, which are calmer and more ideal for enjoying the summer nights.
The fishing town of Portonovo is the center of Galician summer migration.
